Marée is a litigation lawyer with experience at all levels of the legal system. She also represents clients in a variety of other dispute resolution forums. She is known as a down-to-earth and well-prepared advocate. Whether before a Judge, or a Judge with a jury, Marée presents with clarity, common sense, and integrity. You will receive strong representation.
Marée has particular expertise acting in concurrent sets of proceedings (both civil and criminal). In the civil field, she is experienced in contract, tort, and property (including construction) claims. In the criminal field, she has experience acting in fine-only matters up to the most serious offences contained in our criminal calendar. She is also experienced acting in criminal proceeds recovery matters as well as in Coronial inquiries. Across her practice, Marée acts for a number of high-profile and privacy-sensitive clients.
She writes the chapter on surveillance contained in the Thomson Reuters' text, Privacy Law in New Zealand. She presents regularly for NZLS CLE as well as for Legalwise. She is a member of the New Zealand Bar Association as well as The Law Association (previously the Auckland District Law Society). For many years she was Convener of an Auckland Standards Committee under the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006. She also conducts Certificate of Character interviews for the New Zealand Law Society. Marée holds an LLM (graduating as a Scholar) from Columbia Law School in the City of New York, specialising in trial and appellate practice, as well as her LLB (Hons) / BA (taking the Senior Scholarship for 2007). She is a legal aid provider for civil and criminal cases (all levels and including appeals).
